This was not meant to be a list of high selling ,famous games of 2009 . I was trying to go through what were the high profile releases and came up with this list. These are all ESRB M rated games from the last year . This shows the continuation of a despicable trend in games. Photorealism in games nowadays means more dismemberment with trails of blood from a dying human or better, zombies aliens and similar creatures where gore factor can be raised to very high level . Notwithstanding the money made by these games one cannot escape the fact that this is Exploitation . Strong profanity ? (more than Patton ,the movie about someone said to be a super-swearer even for a military man ), illicit drug use?, prostitution ? Bring it on!!! .Let us put a spin that these are "moral choices" Another noticeable fact is that none of these games are 2 player fighters which used to be known for "over the top" gore with complicated and convoluted finishing moves.
Before I forget , One non-noticed game last year was Audiosurf . That was Game play innovation .Plus it runs on systems one decade old. It looks nice without Pixel or Vertex shaders.
